Kenny hails Celtic plan to sell Ajer, sign replacement and be £10m+ better off

Celtic have been told to push through the Kristoffer Ajer sale, sign his replacement and be £10million-plus better off.

That is according to ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the transfer saga involving Ajer.

This site revealed today (8th July) that Celtic have set an £15million asking price for the 23-year-old centre-back, who has a year remaining on his Parkhead deal.

The Hoops have already knocked back multiple offers from Premier League new boys Norwich City for the Norway international.

Celtic are on the cusp of signing fellow centre-back Mario Vuskovic from Hajduk Split in a £5.16m deal, a source has told Football Insider.

But Kenny claims that Celtic are more likely to end up paying over the odds for targets if they wait too long before relinquishing Ajer.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “If he wants out and the offer at some point meets your asking price, you’ve got to cut your losses.

“You can then invest in the team, buy Vuskovic, strengthen and challenge Rangers. The longer you leave it, the more likely you are to have to pay over the odds for players.

“The sooner you can get a replacement in, the better. Maybe it is time to let him go. It’s a lot of money to Celtic, £15m.

Ajer moved to Celtic as a 17-year-old from IK Start in 2016.

He has since made 176 appearances and won eight titles for the Glasgow giants.
