Celtic suffer 'massive blow' as Postecoglou reveals Furuhashi latest - Phillips

Kevin Phillips insists Celtic have suffered a massive blow after Ange Postecoglou revealed the extent of Kyogo Furhashi’s injury.

The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to Friday’s developments.

Furuhashi was forced off early in the second half during Tuesday night’s game against China after picking up an injury.

Today (10 September) Postecoglou confirmed the striker will miss the next three to four weeks with an injury.

Furuhashi has since taken to social media but has not addressed any potential injury simply tweeting, “great job team”.

The Japan international has been in sensational form since joining Celtic this summer, so far scoring seven goals in nine total outings for the club.

Phillips claims someone now has the chance to step up as Celtic face a run of important games.

“It’s not ideal for anyone,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“That’s the risk when you have international players. It’s a massive blow but you plan for things like this.

“It’s an opportunity for someone to come in and perform and they do have a new striker there.

“I hate to say it but it’s always an opportunity, it’s awful for him, the injured player, but it’s true.

“He’s been excellent for them and I’m sure he’ll be back in the side once he’s fit.”

Celtic face a congested run of fixtures after the international break.

Their Europa League campaign is set to get underway against Real Betis next week.
