Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has tabled a monster three-year deal for Hull City forward Abel Hernandez to consider as he nears the end of his contract in Yorkshire, according to a report.
Italian news outlet Calcio Mercato claims that Fiorentina and Sampdoria are interested in Hernandez, 27, after he returned from a long-term spell on the sidelines with a bang.
The Uruguay international has scored pretty much a goal-a-game for Hull this season, with seven strikes in eight appearances across all competitions for the Championship club.
And it is now understood that form has led to Celtic offering him a deal that would make him the best paid player in Scotland.
Ex-Palermo forward Hernandez is said to be happy to return to Serie A, but will think long and hard about the offer that the Bhoys have made as he nears the end of his contract at the KCOM Stadium.
Football Insider verdict
It seems that Rodgers is making plans to lose one or two of his strikers by reaching out to Hernandez at such an early stage. The Uruguay international has a terrible injury record but when he manages to keep himself fit, he is absolutely lethal in front of goal. His form at Hull this season proves that as not many players come back from serious injury to play as well as he has. Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard may be off in the summer so Rodgers has to start planning to sign replacements. Hernandez would be a terrific signing, but it would be risky given his injury record.
In other Celtic news, fans have demanded that the Hoops offload this £14,000-a-week player in the summer.
