Agbonlahor: Celtic 'are in talks for a brilliant signing'
Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Charlie Wyke to reproduce his outstanding Sunderland form if he completes a move to Celtic.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward claimed Wyke would be making a step up but he should keep improving.
It comes after Football Insider revealed on 16 June Celtic were set to offer him a long-term contract to beat competition from south of the border.
The Northern Echo reported on 20 June Celtic have held “fresh talks” with the striker, and the latest is that negotiations are ongoing.
The 28-year-old is set to become a free agent at the end of the month when his Sunderland contract expires.
He scored 30 goals in 53 games across all competitions for the Black Cats last season as they failed to win promotion from League One.

Only Peterborough United’s Jonson Clarke-Harris scored more in the division as Wyke finished with 25 goals.
Asked whether the Englishman could reproduce that form in the Scottish Premiership with Celtic, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think so. Celtic are in talks for a brilliant signing, if they get it done.
“Yes, it’s a big step up but he’s a quality player in League One.
“I’m sure he can make that step up fine and continue to improve.”
Celtic are in the market for a new striker this summer with top goalscorer Odsonne Edouard expected to quit the club.
Leigh Griffiths is also out of contract at Parkhead but there is a possibility he could extend his stay with the Bhoys.
