Celtic have joined Rangers in the race to sign River Plate striker Santos Borre, Football Insider has learned.

The two Glasgow giants are ready to battle top clubs south of the border for the Colombia international this summer.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider that the club have registered their interest in Borre, 25, as he targets a move from next week.

The four-times Colombia international has been valued by Argentine outfit River Plate at £15million.

He is on the radar of multiple clubs as he will be available on a free transfer from 1st July, when his contract expires.

Borre's contract demands are likely to prove critical in whether Celtic or Rangers can seal a deal.

He is seeking a lucrative long-term contract from his next club as he looks for a return to Europe.

The Colombian has previously had a two-year spell at Atletico Madrid but he did not play for them during that time.

Borre instead spent those two seasons out on loan, at Villarreal and Deportivo Cali before signing for River Plate in 2017.

At the Argentine outfit, the centre-forward has a stellar record.

He scored 22 goals from 42 matches in 2019-20 and his 146 appearances for the Argentine club have yielded an impressive 56 goals.

Celtic are in the market for at least one senior centre-forward this summer, and possibly two.

Odsonne Edouard has made it clear he wants to quit with one year remaining on his contract, while Leigh Griffiths is out of contract but could still stay.
