Alan Hutton has tipped Celtic to sign a new left-back this summer to battle Greg Taylor for a place in the starting XI.

The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 24-year-old needs extra competition at full-back next season.

Speaking about new signings to the Daily Record (14 May), Ange Postecoglou revealed Celtic would be "more targeted" in terms of their recruitment strategy during the summer window.

Aside from Hoops outcast Boli Bolingoli, Taylor is the only recognised left-back at Parkhead.

However, right-back pair Anthony Ralston and Josip Juranovic both swapped flanks during the 2021/22 campaign.

Hutton suggested the signing of a new natural left-back would be a top priority for Postecoglou this summer.

Asked where Celtic need to prioritise this summer, Hutton told Football Insider's Russell Edge: "I think they have to bring someone in at left-back.

"Someone who can give Greg Taylor a little bit of competition.

"As well as he's done, I don't think there's someone to really push him on in that position.

"You've got Anthony Ralston, you've got Josip Juranovic too, that can play there too.

"There are a couple of positions they could get someone in for a little bit of competition."

Taylor played 35 times across all competitions during the recently-finished campaign.

He started 22 times in the league, including in the Bhoys' final five games after the split.

The Scotland international has made a total of 84 appearances for the Glasgow giants since joining from Kilmarnock in 2019.
