Celtic to announce 'superstar' Jota signing after 'incredible' thing I heard -pundit

Frank McAvennie expects Jota will be announced as a Celtic player before the end of the month.

The former Hoops hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, isn’t worried about other clubs stealing the Benfica loanee from under the club’s nose.

Jota, 22, came off the bench to a rapturous response during Monday’s (17 January) as Celtic beat Hibs 2-0.

A club source told Football Insider on 10 January that they are close to signing the Portuguese winger permanently and the latest from a source on Friday is the fee will be over £5million on top of the loan fee already paid.

McAvennie expects the deal to happen before the end of January.

“The loudest cheer on Monday night was Jota coming on,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It was incredible, he’s a superstar up here now. He needs to be announced as ours as soon as possible.

“I can’t see it not happening. He loves it up here and it doesn’t sound like anyone else is in for him.

“The noise from the crowd told the club what we all think of him staying.

“I hope and expect that’s wrapped up before the end of the window because that would be another massive boost for everyone here.”

Jota has scored eight times and provided six assists in 19 appearances across all competitions for Celtic since his arrival.

Celtic are next in action against Alloa Athletic on Saturday (22 January).
