Celtic fans rage after Marcelo Saracchi's transfer update

Celtic fans have fumed at their board once more after Marcelo Saracchi's bombshell interview about his failed return to the club in the summer.

Saracchi spent last season on loan at Celtic from Boca Juniors and was heavily linked with a permanent move in the summer transfer window.

Martin O'Neill admitted that he expected the 28-year-old to make a permanent switch after being impressed by his commitment to helping the Hoops over the line in the Premiership.

Celtic failed to agree terms with his representatives in July, however, as Saracchi ultimately joined MLS side Houston Dynamo.

The Uruguayan left-back has now publicly stated that he wanted to stay at Celtic and felt appreciated by O'Neill, but the board did not have any genuine intentions to re-sign him.

His comments have caused numerous Hoops supporters to fume on social media at another missed opportunity, particularly given their current left-back situation.

What has Marcelo Saracchi said in his latest interview?

Saracchi registered one goal and two assists in 27 appearances across all competitions for the Glasgow giants last season.

He was mainly used as a back-up to Kieran Tierney, but often made an impression from the bench and was key to the final-day victory over Hearts that won Celtic the Premiership.

Saracchi's failed move annoyed fans at the time, and his latest interview has only fuelled more anger towards the Parkhead board.

Speaking to Record Sport reporter Ryan McDonald this week, he said: “It seemed like Martin was really interested and keen on keeping me. I explained the situation to them that I wanted to give respect and time to the people in Houston as well.

"But it did feel like the negotiations were going long. I did explain my situation and I know Martin was really interested in bringing me back.

“I definitely don’t want to be on a team that doesn’t want me. It was more me and my agent calling them because I wanted to come back and be a Celtic player.

"It wasn’t much of them reaching out to us and giving me an offer. I tried everything possible to go back. It felt like there wasn’t much intention from their end. They didn’t give any offer.”

Celtic have been left with Tierney and Chelsea loanee Landon Emenalo as their left-back options for this campaign.

Tierney's longstanding injury woes have reared their head again in recent weeks, while Emenalo is a rookie in senior football and is yet to even feature for his loan club after arriving with a pre-existing problem.

Saracchi's comments cause more anger within Celtic support

The 28-year-old was clearly well-loved at Parkhead, and his new comments have only made fans even angrier at the board, who are already under fire amid their poor recent form.

Taking to X to react to the interview, one fan said: "Instead of paying less than a million for Saracchi, we went and bought Landon Emenalo, a guy with 0 professional appearances and has been injured for the last three months. World class basics."

While another added: "Pay the money and get him in January!"

And another supporter added: "Honestly, there is no one I want back more at the moment."
