Martin O'Neill to 'see the season through' at Celtic after 'completely ridiculous' development

Martin O'Neill will decide to stay and fight in 2026-27 once the Celtic manager has a chance to "digest" the situation.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the 74-year-old cannot be fully to blame at Parkhead.

While the Hoops are currently sitting top of the Scottish Premiership table, they have been relegated from the Champions League and booted out of the Scottish League Cup.

O'Neill's side are on a three-game losing streak, with a loss to Ferencvaros sandwiched between two Old Firm defeats against Rangers.

The defeats to Derek McInnes' side have caused the most hurt, especially at Parkhead, with Celtic only recording two shots on target across the games.

O'Neill has admitted that he'll be using the international break to consider his future at the club, but the expectation is that he'll stay for the remainder of the season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson believes that O'Neill will choose to stay before the campaign resumes, having already made a huge difference last season.

"He'll see it through to the end of season, probably, once he's had the chance to digest it and get over the disappointment of the defeats," he said.

"Obviously, the season's not been good so far. There's been some calamitous stuff. The Champions League thing was just completely ridiculous.

"But the biggest cost there is going to be, again, who you're going to bring in, where you're going to bring him in from, or what difference it's going to make on the pitch.

"Ultimately, it's not like Martin O'Neill has not been able to get something out of these players."

What are Celtic's chances of winning a title this season?

Kieran McKenna and Robbie Keane are both already being linked with the job, but either would likely come with a pricey compensation fee.

Despite the recent struggles, Celtic are still the favourites to lift the Scottish Premiership title again, being priced at 8/13, while Rangers are 11/8.

The Europa League odds are not quite as kind, though, with the Hoops being priced at 100/1 to lift the trophy at the end of the season.

Weirder things have certainly happened in football, but given the team's current form, it would take a lot of improvement to manage that.
