Celtic 'would like' to appoint Sean Dyche
Sean Dyche's vast experience in the Premier League would tick a big box for the Celtic board in terms of what they want from their next manager.
The former Nottingham Forest and Burnley boss has been heavily linked with the Bhoys in recent days, despite Martin O'Neill ultimately opting to continue as manager for now.
However, Wyness does not believe that Dyche would be the right fit for Celtic, and expects his style would require too big a change for them.
The 55-year-old has typically managed underdogs in the Premier League, which is well-suited to his solid, counter-attacking style of football.
However, Wyness does not believe that would align well with the lofty expectations of Celtic and their supporters.
Celtic must resist Sean Dyche urge
Aberdeen's former chief executive Wyness - who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004 and now runs a consultancy business advising elite clubs - believes that Celtic must resist the urge to appoint someone like Dyche in future, despite his strong CV.
O'Neill is set to be handed more time to steady the ship, but with his contract expiring in the summer, the board are already considering their next move.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness warned that Dyche would likely be the wrong fit to take the reins at Parkhead.
"The Celtic board would probably like a name with Premier League experience, and they think they could sell that to the fans," he said.
"But I don't think Sean should be considered; I don't think his experience, style of squad management and style of play would actually suit Celtic very well.
"As we've seen in the clubs he's been at with the Forest and the Everton situations, he's been on the back foot to a certain degree.
"And Celtic normally in Scotland and in Europe are on the front foot, and it's not really quite a good match of styles.
"We're yet to see what the board are going to try and do with this. But again, as we just discussed with Celtic, there are a lot of problems right now, and they've got to get this decision right."
Dyche to 'seriously consider' Celtic chance
Football Insider revealed last week that Dyche would give "serious consideration" to moving to Celtic if the chance arose.
The veteran boss has been out of work since he was sacked by Forest back in February, but has been linked with several jobs since the start of the new season.
Sources say that Dyche is viewed as a genuine option for Celtic, despite Wyness' reservations about his fit for the role.
He has taken charge of over 350 Premier League games at this stage of his career, and that experience is sure to appeal to clubs.
