Sources: Celtic can now sign Gvidas Gineitis for below asking price
Torino's financial difficulties could see Celtic pounce to land Gvidas Gineitis for less than his £8.5million price tag, sources have told Football Insider.
Celtic have seen an initial offer of around £6.5million rejected by Torino for Gineitis, 22, with the Serie A club demanding a bigger fee.
They remain keen on his services as Martin O'Neill looks to continue adding quality to his ranks in midfield.
The Hoops' likely Champions League qualification has seen them accelerate plans to make a second move for Gineitis in the next week.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, they may well have the chance to land the Lithuanian international for a compromised fee as Torino need to make sales.
The Serie A side's sporting director, Gianluca Petrachi, recently admitted that they need to sell players, saying: "We are losing around €20million (£17.1m) this year, and therefore, naturally, we also need to make some sales."
Celtic could strike bargain deal for Gvidas Gineitis as second offer lined up
Gineitis featured 31 times for Torino across league and cup games last season, and played well in the Coppa Italia last week to kick off the new campaign.
He is believed to be open to moving to Parkhead before the deadline passes, with Celtic set to make an imminent move for less than his reported price-tag.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Torino are suggesting that they might have to sell some players before the close of the window to help balance the books, so that would boost Celtic's chances of landing him.
"I think it's an ongoing pursuit. Celtic have got Gineitis on their radar, and they'll be hoping that maybe Torino drop their asking price and they can maybe get a deal done for him."
Reo Hatate stalling over Celtic exit after rejecting overseas offers
Hatate is set to fall even further down O'Neill's midfield pecking order if Gineitis seals a move to Parkhead soon.
The Japanese international has been told that he can leave Celtic in this window after struggling for minutes towards the end of last season.
He has had Premier League clubs on his trail in the past, but sources have revealed to Football Insider that Hatate is stalling over leaving Celtic after rejecting interest from Greece, Austria and the USA.
Hatate is holding out for a bigger club to come in for him this summer, and otherwise will be content to stay at Parkhead until January at least.
