Sources: Celtic are about to submit big-money Gvidas Gineitis offer
Celtic are planning to submit an improved offer for Gvidas Gineitis as Martin O'Neill aims to further bolster his midfield, sources have told Football Insider.
O'Neill is keen to add more quality to his ranks in the middle of the park before the window closes after Arne Engels' £22million move to West Ham.
Celtic have already signed Mika Baur and are in talks with Slovan Liberec about a move for Ermin Mahmic.
They have seen an initial offer of around £6.5million rejected by Torino for Gineitis, 22, with the Serie A club demanding a bigger fee.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, the Hoops are ready to offer an improved figure to get a move for the Lithuanian star over the line.
Gineitis is reportedly available for £8.5m, with Celtic set to accelerate a move after taking a huge step towards Champions League qualification.
Gvidas Gineitis remains on Celtic's radar as new bid plotted
Gineitis featured 31 times for Torino across league and cup games last season, and played well in the Coppa Italia last week to kick off the new campaign.
Celtic will have to offer a much-improved fee to land his services, with sources previously revealing to Football Insider that Gineitis is keen on a move to Parkhead.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "He's definitely somebody that Celtic are continuing to pursue. They've already had a bid rejected for the Lithuanian international in this summer transfer window as well, with Torino obviously holding out for as much as they possibly can.
"Celtic have got money to spend now, following the departure of Arne Engels, and bringing in another midfielder is a key priority for Martin O'Neill right now as he wants to strengthen the position.
"Gineitis is one of those players that the club have been following for quite a while now, so it will be interesting to see if they follow that up with an improved offer after having that first one rejected."
Celtic keen on Niko Sigur as transfer plans ramp up
Celtic's likely UCL qualification has seen them accelerate plans for new arrivals, with Hajduk Split star Sigur on their radar too as it stands.
Sources have revealed to Football Insider that Celtic are ready to move for Sigur soon, with his versatility appealing to their recruitment team.
The 22-year-old Canadian international can feature in defensive midfield or at right-back, with Celtic still keen on signing a clear back-up to Alistair Johnston.
