Celtic ready Niko Sigur move as cut-price deal on the cards
Niko Sigur's versatility means that he "ticks a lot of boxes" for Celtic this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The Bhoys are long-term admirers of the 22-year-old, and are now finally readying a move for him ahead of the 3 September transfer deadline.
The Hajduk Split star is a holding midfielder by trade, but can also operate at right-back, and that is seen as a huge plus in his name by Martin O'Neill.
Sources have indicated that Celtic feel Sigur could provide additional cover for Alistair Johnston when needed, with his fellow Canadian suffering plenty of injuries in the last 12 months.
Both positions have been priority areas for Celtic to strengthen this summer, and Sigur could provide a quality option in both areas.
There is also a feeling that Hajduk would be willing to let him go for a relatively insignificant fee.
Celtic expect to seal Niko Sigur deal for less than £4m
Celtic have been under pressure from their supporters to add top-quality reinforcements to their squad this summer, and their window is finally now starting to gather pace.
The Bhoys now have four new additions through the door, and are actively working on several deals to take that tally higher before the 3 September deadline.
Sigur is among the targets at the top of Celtic's list at the moment, and the club hierarchy believe that they won't have to break the bank in order to sign him.
Football Insider revealed earlier this week that there is a feeling at Parkhead that the club will be able to sign Sigur for less than £4million.
The starlet is into the final two years of his contract with the Croatian outfit, who know that they are running out of time to cash in on their star man.
Balasz Toth wants Celtic move
Football Insider also revealed on Wednesday that Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Balasz Toth is keen on the idea of a move to Celtic in the coming weeks.
The Hungary international is keen to play at the highest possible level with his next move, while O'Neill and Co. can also guarantee him regular football.
Toth's exit from Ewood Park before the deadline appears increasingly likely, given that he has already rejected several offers of a new contract from Blackburn.
The 28-year-old is out of contract in June 2027, and with Celtic lurking, there is a strong chance that he departs in the next few weeks.
