Celtic fans fume over Kelechi Iheanacho exit after transfer update
Kelechi Iheanacho’s departure from Celtic edges closer this summer after Bursaspor made contact with the clinical striker.
The 29-year-old’s contract has officially expired at Parkhead, and the Hoops do not seem close to reaching a deal.
Celtic did have an option to extend the attacker’s deal by one year. However, this has not been taken up, and he is now a free agent.
Turkish side Bursaspor are now reportedly eyeing a swoop, and this has only fueled Celtic supporters’ hatred for the board, with many wanting Iheanacho to stay.
The striker was crucial in the final matches of the Scottish Premiership campaign and scored numerous late goals to ensure that the Hoops won the league.
Iheanacho had joined Celtic on a free transfer from Sevilla last summer, but it looks increasingly certain that his career in Glasgow will come to an end in the coming weeks.
Fans want Kelechi Iheanacho to stay at Celtic
In the final few games of the 2025-26 campaign, Iheanacho was critical.
The striker netted six goals in the final nine matches of the season in all competitions, with three of these proving to be winners.
Yet, there seems to be no appetite for the Hoops to renew the striker’s contract this summer.
Now, after Olay reported that Bursaspor are eyeing a move for Iheanacho, many supporters have had enough and took to X to criticise the board for their inability to agree a deal.
Does Iheanacho want to stay at Celtic?
Football Insider exclusively revealed that Iheanacho is keen to stay at Celtic ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
The 29-year-old has enjoyed his time at the club, despite injuries plaguing the first half of his campaign.
Martin O’Neill’s decision to use him as a super sub proved to be genius, and was one of the main reasons Celtic pipped Hearts to the Scottish Premier League title.
However, it now feels inevitable that Iheanacho will move on this summer, especially after the option to extend his contract expired on Tuesday as clubs eye a move.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if the Hoops bring in a replacement if a deal is not struck, with the start of the 2026-27 campaign getting closer as each day passes.
