Celtic fans will love what Christian Eriksen has said about Gustav Isaksen

Celtic have been linked with a move for Lazio striker Gustav Isaksen as the transfer window continues to heat up.

The Italian side are open to offers for the 25-year-old this summer, who is valued at around £12.8million.

Celtic reportedly “appreciates” Isaksen as they search for attacking reinforcements up top.

The Hoops are in need of a striker this summer, with Daizen Maeda expected to leave for Ipswich Town in the coming days.

Now, they may look to the Denmark international to replace the Japan international after his recent struggles at Lazio, with Christian Eriksen once praising the attacker.

Last season, the striker netted five times in 30 matches in the Serie A and could now take the next step in his career.

Christian Eriksen: Gustav Isaksen creates something Denmark don’t have 

Previously, Isaksen was a huge hit at FC Midtjylland.

The striker netted 22 goals in 45 appearances in his final season for the Danish club, which helped him earn a move to Lazio.

This form also helped him become an international for Denmark, and he has 15 caps for his country to date, where he has scored six times.

His form for his country has continued in recent years despite a tough spell at Lazio, and he has subsequently earned praise from many of his teammates, including Eriksen.

After he netted the equaliser in the 2-1 win against Northern Ireland in 2025, the former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was quick to highlight the striker’s qualities.

He told Citta Celeste on 10 June 2025: “He has a lot of grit and almost always manages to get past his opponent.

“He consistently creates something we haven't had in the national team for a long time; he has great one-on-one skills. He can dribble, and that becomes a big advantage for us.”

As a result, if Lorenzo Canicchio’s report is correct and Celtic eventually make a move to sign Isaksen, fans will no doubt be excited for the signing based on this Eriksen admission.

How good is Isaksen?

According to Fotmob on 24 July, Isaksen was pretty solid in the Serie A last season.

Overall, he averaged 0.28 goals, a 0.28 xG, 2.70 shots, 1.07 shots on target, 1.52 successful dribbles, 6.36 touches in the opposition box and 3.21 fouls won per 90 minutes in the Serie A. 

Therefore, everything points toward Isaksen being a potential success under Martin O’Neill if they can get a deal over the line.

However, it remains to be seen who Celtic will look to bring in over the coming weeks as they aim to defend the Scottish Premiership title.
