Celtic green light exit for player who only signed last summer

Celtic have given the green light to Michel-Ange Balikwisha joining a new club before the transfer window closes, sources have told Football Insider.

AC Monza, FC Basel and SV 07 Elversberg are closely monitoring the 25-year-old forward going into the final weeks of the transfer window.

Sources say the race to win the Democratic Republic of Congo’s signature remains wide open but he is unlikely to be at Parkhead beyond the deadline.

Balikwisha only played 14 times for Celtic last season, with the forward not suited to Martin O’Neill’s tactical approach.

As a result, despite only signing for the club last summer, the attacker has become almost a forgotten player at Parkhead.

Nevertheless, he still played a part in Celtic’s Scottish Premiership title win in the 2025-26 campaign.

How poor was Michel-Ange Balikwisha last season?

Last season, Balikwisha only managed 236 minutes in the Scottish Premiership, and based on his stats, it is of little wonder why.

According to Fotmob on 14 August, the winger had a poor attacking output, which no doubt contributed to his limited minutes.

Per 90 minutes, he was averaging 0.00 goals, a 0.008 xG, 0.38 shots, 0.38 shots on target, 0.38 assists, a 0.33 xA, 1.14 chances created and 0.38 big chances created.

Balikwisha’s potential exit from Celtic comes as little surprise, with the winger not producing enough to earn himself consistent minutes on the pitch.

What other business could Celtic conduct this summer?

Football Insider has exclusively revealed that a Celtic bid between £4million and £5m would be hard to resist for Miguel Chaiwa this summer.

The Hibernian midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Parkhead for months after an excellent 2025-26 campaign in the Scottish Premiership.

Celtic are now in need of a new midfielder, with Arne Engels set to complete a move to West Ham United in the coming weeks.

Hibs do not want to sell the 22-year-old, but Chaiwa would reportedly be keen on a move to the Hoops before the transfer window closes.

Recently, the midfielder has helped the Edinburgh club reach the Conference League playoffs at the end of August.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Celtic are able to strike a deal for Chaiwa before the transfer window slams shut at the start of September.
