Celtic hit by Kelechi Iheanacho blow after three-year deal agreed - report
Celtic look set to miss out on Kelechi Iheanacho after the striker agreed a deal with Bursaspor.
Reports have emerged that the 29-year-old striker has agreed to a three-year deal with the Turkish side ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
Celtic have been in talks with Iheanacho after his contract expired at the end of the 2025-26 season.
However, the Hoops now appear to have missed out on the attacker, despite putting an offer on the table.
Iheanacho was fundamental to Celtic winning the domestic double last season after he netted a series of late winners towards the end of the campaign.
This included a vital last-gasp penalty against Motherwell in the penultimate match of the season as the Hoops won 3-2.
Kelechi Iheanacho agrees three-year deal to join Bursaspor
If Iheanacho does end up joining Bursaspor, it will no doubt be a blow to both Celtic and Martin O’Neill.
After returning from injury, the striker proved to be a consistent threat from the bench and an excellent option to have in the squad.
O’Neill was also clearly keen on Iheanacho staying on for another season, with the attacker clearly impressing the manager.
However, Celtic have no one to blame but themselves for his blunder after letting Iheanacho’s contract expire, which had a one-year extension option.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Ertan Suzgun’s report is accurate or if the Hoops still have time to complete a deal.
Who else are Celtic linked to?
Celtic have also been heavily linked with winger Haissem Hassan in recent weeks.
The 24-year-old emerged as one of the standout players in the World Cup for his excellent performance against Argentina in the round of 16 as Egypt were defeated 3-2.
Reports have now emerged that Celtic hope to get a deal done for Hassan as early as next week.
Real Oviedo have already knocked back one bid from the Hoops. However, they are in frequent contact with the 24-year-old’s staff in hopes of getting the deal done.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Celtic can complete the signing of Hassan over the next couple of weeks, or if this will be yet another player that they miss out on this summer transfer window.
