Celtic to open talks over sixth summer signing
Celtic are set to advance their interest in Hajduk Split’s Niko Sigur over the coming days as they look to strike a deal, sources have told Football Insider.
The Scottish champions are expected to open talks with the Croatian club soon over a late-window deal.
The 22-year-old has been identified by Celtic as one of the main options for the defensive midfield position they are trying to reinforce.
Sigur had been linked with a move to Parkhead back in the winter window, and the Hoops have appeared to reignite this interest.
The midfielder played a part in the 2026 World Cup and made three appearances as Canada reached the round of 32.
Sigur could now become Celtic’s third signing of the summer, as Martin O’Neill eyes further reinforcements.
Celtic set for active end to the transfer window
After a slow start from the Hoops, things are beginning to heat up in the transfer window.
Mika Baur is expected to complete a move to Parkhead in the coming days after a deal was agreed with Paderborn.
On top of this, Celtic are also set to sign Haissem Hassan from Real Oviedo after a £9million fee was agreed for the winger.
Should the Hoops act on their interest, Sigur could end up becoming the club’s sixth signing of the summer.
However, it remains to be seen if the Old Firm club actually place a bid for the defensive midfielder.
Are Celtic set to have a successful transfer window?
The pressure was certainly on the Celtic board this summer to get this transfer window right after the quality in the squad clearly declined.
However, despite leaving it late, the club has acted and could now bring in several top players before the transfer window closes.
The addition of Kasper Hogh already looks masterful, with the attacker being an excellent replacement for Daizen Maeda.
Camilo Duran also looks to be a tidy bit of business, with the Hoops now in an excellent position to retain the title.
However, it remains to be seen if these signings correlate to an improved performance in Europe as Celtic look to reach the Champions League’s league stage in the coming weeks ahead of their playoff tie.
