Celtic's stance on Benjamin Nygren transfer admission revealed

Celtic will not rush into any plans to sell star midfielder Benjamin Nygren next summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Bhoys are well aware that if the Sweden international continues to perform in the Scottish Premiership, they will face a stampede of calls from clubs trying to sign him.

Nygren recently admitted that he had plenty of interest this summer, but remains fully focused on helping Celtic achieve success on all fronts at the moment. 

Sources say that the Glasgow giants are “relaxed” about the 25-year-old’s future, as they have him tied down to a long-term contract which still has four years left to run. 

Nevertheless, there is an awareness that they cannot compete with Europe’s top clubs, and they are still prepared to accept an offer for Nygren if they believe it makes business sense. 

The midfielder shone with 30 goal involvements in all competitions last term, and he already has five goals and six assists from just 10 games so far in 2026-27.

Nygren has already proven to be an excellent signing for Celtic, as he has developed into their star player since joining from Nordsjaelland ahead of last season. 

The Swede has made the transition into British football look extremely easy, and he is one of the first names on the teamsheet for the Bhoys right now. 

Premier League links have been an inevitable by-product of his sparkling season at Parkhead last term, but nothing came to fruition in terms of a move away this summer. 

However, Celtic will be under no illusions that the transfer interest in Nygren will not go away any time soon, provided that he continues to perform. 

They have become increasingly adept at selling their best players at the right time in recent years, and they will have to take a sensible approach once again with Nygren.

Arne Engels departed for West Ham earlier this summer in a £22million deal, and Nygren is almost destined to one day become another huge sale for Celtic.

Martin O'Neill's stance on Sebastian Tounekti

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday that Celtic are not planning to sell struggling winger Sebastian Tounekti in January.

The 24-year-old was taken off at half-time during the recent defeat to Rangers, as his poor run of form has continued into the new campaign.

However, Martin O'Neill believes that Tounekti can turn his fortunes around at Celtic Park, and is prepared to show patience for the rest of the campaign.

The Tunisia international is tied down to a long-term contract with the Bhoys, but has failed to show consistent promise so far.
