Chris Sutton was left unimpressed after reports emerged that Daizen Maeda was closing in on a £10million move to Ipswich Town this summer.

Reports had emerged on 21 July that the Tractor Boys’ £10m bid had been accepted in principle by the Hoops.

It’s understood the fee is likely to be accepted for the Japan international, with just the structure of payments and add-ons to be discussed.

The 28-year-old attacker has been heavily tipped to leave the club this summer after entering the final year of his contract.

However, Chris Sutton is far from impressed at the fee Celtic are set to receive for the attacker, who is no doubt one of the Hoops’ star players.

Maeda scored nine goals in his last seven games for the Old Firm outfit, which proved to be crucial as the club won the domestic double.

Chris Sutton: Celtic are getting a bad deal for Daizen Maeda

Maeda has been fundamental to Celtic’s success in recent years.

Overall, he has netted 79 times in 212 appearances, which has helped the club win 10 major trophies.

Therefore, despite his expiring contract and his desire to leave, there was a hope that the club could net a decent fee for him.

However, this does not appear to be the case with Sky Sports News reporting that Celtic will only get around £10m for the attacker.

Therefore, when Sutton reacted to the news via X, he was far from impressed with the fee Celtic were set to net from the sale.

He said: “Maeda is worth much more than £10 million and will find himself playing Championship football the following season.

Who else could leave Celtic this summer?

Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a surprise move for Arne Engels.

The midfielder has been heavily linked with an exit at Celtic this summer, with numerous Premier League clubs interested.

Now, Spurs have joined the race for the 22-year-old as Roberto De Zerbi looks to upgrade his midfield.

Clubs such as Nottingham Forest have also been credited with interest, with the East Midlands outfit having a bid turned down in the winter window.

However, it remains to be seen where Engels will end up playing his football during the 2026-27 campaign as Celtic and Martin O’Neill continue to make changes to the squad.
