Reo Hatate: Exactly how much Celtic received from Burnley in deadline-day deal

Celtic will land £6.5million plus add-ons for Reo Hatate after he completed a move to Burnley on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old midfielder had been heavily linked with an exit from Celtic Park this summer after falling out of Martin O’Neill’s plans.

Then, in the dying hours of the English transfer window, the Japan international secured a move to the Championship club, ending his four-year stay at the Hoops.

Initially, it was unknown how much Celtic had received for Hatate, with previous reports indicating that the club wanted a significant seven-figure sum.

However, sources revealed on Wednesday that the Old Firm club should receive £6.5m plus add-ons for his sale.

Hatate had only featured in two games for Celtic this campaign, playing in both legs of the club’s defeat to LASK in the Champions League.

The Hoops have sealed around £10m from the sales of Hatate and Johnny Kenny on Tuesday.

Kenny also made a move to the Championship, as he moved to Preston North End for £3m.

Considering both players were not in O’Neill’s plans, this is excellent business and Celtic deserve credit for getting such fees.

However, fans will only appreciate these sales if these funds are reinvested in the remaining days of the transfer window.

Reinforcements are clearly needed at Celtic, and it remains to be seen if players can be brought in before Thursday’s deadline.

Who are Celtic looking to sign?

The Chelsea youngster is expected to be announced as the Hoops’ latest signing sooner rather than later.

Mheuka signed a new seven-year Chelsea contract until 2033, proving that his parent club rate him highly.

The youngster has scored goals at various youth levels at the Blues, but is yet to be truly tested, with this set to be his first senior loan move.

However, it remains to be seen if Mheuka will be a success at Celtic Park and help lead the club to yet another Scottish Premiership title this season.
