Celtic are continuing to "monitor" the situation of Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Balazs Toth, sources have told Football Insider.

The Bhoys were heavily linked with the Hungarian in the summer, and Toth has continued to reject offers of a new contract to stay at Blackburn long-term.

It is now understood that the door is open for him to potentially leave Ewood Park in January, with his contract due to expire at the end of the campaign.

Sources say that Celtic still have the 29-year-old on their radar, and would be able to sign him for a clear reduction to his £4million summer valuation.

The Glasgow giants have been searching for a long-term solution in the goalkeeping department in recent windows, but it has continued to evade them so far.

Sam Johnstone and Viljami Sinisalo have both enjoyed stints as the number one already this term, but the option of adding a third stopper to their ranks remains on the table.

Balasz Toth open to Celtic move

Toth was heavily linked with several European clubs ahead of this season, and he is sure to attract plenty of interest once again this winter.

It won't be easy for Celtic to sign him as a result, but the Blackburn ace looked favourably upon a potential move to Celtic Park just a few months ago.

Football Insider revealed back in August that Toth was open to the idea of a move to Parkhead, with the chance to play European football of genuine appeal to him.

He has established himself as one of the best 'keepers in the English Championship in recent years, but is now keen to play at the highest possible level at this stage of his career.

Blackburn are now increasingly likely to sanction an exit once the January window opens, and are not keen on the idea of losing him on a free next summer.

Celtic have continued to keep a close eye on Toth in recent weeks, but it may not be a straightforward deal for them to strike.

Celtic to 'consider' Van den Berg January move

Celtic plot Joel van den Berg loan move

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday that Celtic will "consider" letting young midfielder Joel van den Berg leave on loan during the upcoming January window.

The Bhoys spent £3.4m to bring the 19-year-old in from PSV Eindhoven in the summer, but he is still waiting for his debut for his new club.

Celtic view Van den Berg as one for the future, but are still keen to avoiud stunting his development, with a loan move potentially on the cards for him to gain regular senior football.

However, if Martin O'Neill decides that he needs the starlet to provid injury cover in the middle of the park, then he could potentially block any plan for an exit.
