Vilkami Sinisalo's Parkhead future has been thrown into doubt after Celtic declared their interest in Motherwell goalkeeper Calum Ward.

The 25-year-old is being monitored by several clubs ahead of the summer transfer window, after a season that has seen him keep 17 clean sheets in the Scottish Premiership.

Sinisalo has been Celtic's starting goalkeeper since the start of March, when it emerged that Kasper Schmeichel had been playing through injury.

The Dane later confirmed on live television that his injury was worse than first feared, and could even bring an end to his playing career.

Celtic transfer chiefs have been eyeing a goalkeeper to replace the 39-year-old anyway, but Sinisalo would have hoped to have kept his place between the sticks.

Celtic line up Calum Ward move

Football Insider exclusively revealed in March that Sinisalo was impressing Celtic chiefs, who had been set to sign a new number one this summer.

The 24-year-old has made several key saves in recent weeks as the Bhoys have attempted to keep their hopes of retaining the Scottish Premiership alive.

But a move for Ward would change things, with the 25-year-old unlikely to arrive at Parkhead to sit on the bench.

The former Bournemouth goalkeeper is under contract until 2027, but the deal reportedly contains an option to extend it by a year further.

Christoper Reidy reported on Wednesday that Celtic, Wycombe Wanderers and Polish side Jadiellonia Bialystok are among the clubs interested in a move for the "impressive" Ward this summer.

The Hoops are in a strong position when it comes to Sinisalo, who is under contract until the summer of 2029.

Jens Berthel Askou could bring Ward with him

Jens Berthel Askou is considered among the favourites to take the Celtic job this summer, after a superb season in charge of Motherwell.

The Dane's side have struggled at the end of the season, failing to win any of their last five Scottish Premiership games, but they remain on course to finish fourth after finishing in the bottom half last season.

Askou has transformed Ward under his watch, and could be prepared to take the goalkeeper to Celtic, if he is appointed.

Where that would leave Sinisalo remains unclear, with the Celtic man unlikely to return to the bench.
