Celtic are reportedly targeting Blackburn Rovers shot-stopper Balazs Toth late in the transfer window.

The 28-year-old goalkeeper is valued at north of £4million, despite being in the last year of his contract.

The Hungary international is believed to be high on Celtic’s shortlist after he turned down a chance to renew his contract at Ewood Park.

Martin O’Neill has been searching for a new goalkeeper throughout the summer after Kasper Schmeichel left the club at the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

As a result, Viljami Sinisalo has been Celtic’s number one at the start of the 2026-27 season after taking the mantle at the end of the last campaign.

However, Toth could now prove to be a significant upgrade on the Hoops keeper.

What are Balazs Toth’s stats?

Despite being in a relegation battle with Blackburn Rovers for most of last season, Toth impressed.

The goalkeeper was able to keep eight clean sheets in 34 Championship matches as the club narrowly escaped the drop zone.

Much of this was down to his displays, with Toth boasting plenty of solid stats from last season.

According to Fotmob on 14 August, Toth averaged 2.85 saves, a 69.3 save percentage, -0.02 goals prevented, 0.24 clean sheets and 0.00 errors that led to goals per 90 minutes.

These are no doubt some solid stats, and if the Daily Record’s report is true, Celtic could have their hands on a brilliant player.

How do Toth’s stats compare to Viljami Sinisalo?

In comparison, despite Sinisalo helping Celtic to win a domestic double last season, the goalkeeper was not great.

Overall, he made numerous errors, one of which almost cost the club the Scottish Premiership title on the final day.

As a result, his stats are not nearly as impressive.

He was averaging 1.92 saves, a 60.5 save percentage, -0.13 goals prevented, 0.08 clean sheets and 0.08 errors that led to goals per 90 minutes.

Therefore, if Celtic are able to get a deal over the line for Toth, O’Neill could be handed a significant upgrade on his current number one.

However, it remains to be seen if the club are able to get a deal over the line for the Blackburn star in the coming weeks.
