Chelsea have found perfect Timo Werner replacement after deal agreed - pundit

Frank McAvennie has suggested Chelsea have found a replacement for Timo Werner in Raheem Sterling.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-West Ham striker suggested that the Blues will be able to let Werner leave as they have a replacement.

According to The Mirror (30 July), Newcastle United have opened talks with Chelsea over a loan deal for the 26-year-old.

The forward has also been linked with a return to RB Leipzig who have expressed a willingness to bring him back to the German top flight.

The German international has three years remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

He joined the Blues from Leipzig in 2020 for a fee of around £48million.

On 13 July, Chelsea confirmed the arrival of Sterling from Man City.

He put pen to paper on a five year deal with the Blues.

When asked if he thought Thomas Tuchel would be willing to let Werner leave the club, McAvennie told Football Insider: “They’ve got Sterling who can score goals.

Now that they’ve got him, that’s why they’re saying Werner can go.

Werner keeps getting chances. He’s a good player, at least he’s getting the chances. But you can’t keep getting them and keep missing them.

He could go to another club, get a chance, score it and then he’s up and running.

Sterling has come in that’s why there will be talk about Werner. Sterling isn’t like [Romelu] Lukaku, he’s not an out and out striker, he’s more fitted to replacing Werner.

I think Werner now can go because of Sterling.

In other news, Chelsea told to complete Wesley Fofana deal as terms agreed.
