Sources: Chelsea stance on Ampadu revealed as Bristol City make late swoop

Chelsea are tempted to terminate Ethan Ampadu’s loan spell at RB Leipzig and agree a fresh deal with Bristol City, Football Insider understands.

The Championship promotion chasers have registered their interest in the teenage centre-back, 19, who joined the Bundesliga outfit on a season-long loan last summer.

A Chelsea source has told Football Insider that the club are now considering cutting short Ampadu’s spell in Germany and sending him elsewhere in search of first-team football in the second half of the season.

A number of clubs have shown an interest in Ampadu but Bristol City are at the front of the queue for the versatile performer, who can play in defence or central midfield.

Lee Johnson’s side enjoy a good working relationship with Chelsea having taken the likes of Tammy Abraham and Kasey Palmer on loan from them in the past.

Landing Ampadu would be a massive coup forJohnson as he looks to maintain his team’s push for promotion to the Premier League.
