Chelsea could soon be set to sign Adam Wharton as one of the top bookmakers slashes his odds on a move across the capital.

Crystal Palace star Wharton has been heavily linked with a move away over the last 12 months as he shines in South London.

He is believed to be on the radar of top clubs across Europe, but talk around a move away has quietened since the end of last season.

Wharton will have been left disappointed to have missed out on England's World Cup squad as Thomas Tuchel took the likes of Jordan Henderson and Kobbie Mainoo instead.

His future remains up in the air this summer, however, as several bigger sides mix up their midfield options for the new campaign.

Chelsea are one of the clubs being linked to his services, and they are now looking increasingly likely to get a deal done in the coming weeks.

Chelsea see odds tumble on chances of signing Adam Wharton this summer

New Blues manager Xabi Alonso is reviewing his squad and potential next moves following his appointment at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have already agreed a record-breaking deal for Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers, who underwent a medical with the club on Monday.

Enzo Fernandez has been linked with a move away from the club in the last few weeks, with Wharton on their radar.

Someone like Alonso, who was a top midfielder in his playing days, is sure to admire the 22-year-old's skillset and potential to be special.

One of the UK's top bookmakers has slashed Chelsea's odds to be his next club to 11/4, and they remain the favourites to sign him ahead of any other side.

Liverpool's odds with the same bookies have drifted out to 9/2, with Football Insider recently revealing that the Reds' interest in Wharton has cooled as they focus on other positions.

What has Steve Parish said about selling Wharton?

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Chelsea are confident of beating their rivals to Wharton's signature this summer.

He recently missed Palace's pre-season friendly against Swindon Town, but later reports insisted that a small ankle problem caused his absence.

Eagles chairman Parish has made it clear that the club will not be forced into selling their star midfielder anytime soon in an interview on talkSPORT.

He said: “The fact of the matter is he's got a long contract to run. There's no pressure on us to do it, and I don't think there's any real pressure from the player either.

“I think Adam at some point will want to play either in the Champions League with us, if we can make that happen, or probably with another club. He's an extraordinary talent. I think right now, and I can't speak for Adam, but I think he's focused on his time at Crystal Palace. I think he's very committed to the club."
