Alex Scott's excellence was on full show once again as Bournemouth drew 2-2 with Newcastle United on Saturday.

Marcus Tavernier and Malick Thiaw's own goal looked to be enough for the Cherries to claim their first three points of the season, before Jacob Ramsey's late equaliser.

The 23-year-old was a key target for Chelsea in the summer transfer window but ultimately stayed, with his club insistent that he would not be sold this summer.

Scott has just two years remaining on his contract and will be sold within the next year if a new deal cannot be agreed, with the Blues almost certainly set to be in the conversation.

Scott had plenty of potential suitors this summer, with Arsenal and Chelsea among them.

Bournemouth's position was clear, according to journalist David Ornstein on TNT Sports on Saturday, and that stance was reinforced when the Blues' £64million bid was rejected out of hand in July.

The midfielder's start to the season has shown why, too. His attempted pass across the box would deflect off Thiaw and hand Bournemouth a two-goal lead.

Scott's appearance in the box rather summed up his afternoon, as he popped up all over the pitch to prove a constant thorn in Newcastle's side.

The 23-year-old created two chances, took two shots, completed two successful dribbles and nine passes into the final third.

And that was just going forward. Scott won a staggering five free-kicks, made two clearances, three interceptions, a remarkable six recoveries and won eight duels.

"Alex Scott is enjoying himself out there, he's showing his class at the start of this game," said Lucy Ward, who was commentating for TNT Sports.

Will Scott leave in January?

Bournemouth will be well aware that Scott is attracted to the idea of a move to the likes of Chelsea, with more money and a greater chance of featuring for England on offer.

But the Cherries will hope that the young midfielder can be persuaded to sign a new deal with a release clause.

As it did for Antoine Semenyo, such a deal could pave the way for a January exit for the 23-year-old.

Scott will be a fantastic addition for any team hoping to sign him, and it remains to be seen just where he will end up.
