Mykhailo Mudryk's 'most likely destination' revealed as Chelsea 'hold talks'

Mykhailo Mudryk is likely to complete a loan move to Strasbourg after Chelsea held talks about his long-term future at the club.

The 25-year-old has been cleared of any wrongdoing following an appeal against an initial four-year ban for breaching anti-doping rules, which has ruled him out since December 2024.

He has now made his return to senior football, and featuted under Xabi Alonso during Chelsea's 1-0 defeat to Juventus last week as he was given the platform to prove his fitness.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Chelsea are now prepared to send Mudryk on loan with Strasbourg seen as his most likley destination.

Given the relationship between the clubs, negotiations are expetced to be relatively straightforward, and would give the Ukraine international the chance to play top-level football.

Meanwhile, Chelsea would be able to keep a close eye on his progress with a view to his return in the future, with shared data between both clubs providing an exclusive insight.

Will Mykhailo Mudryk be allowed to leave Chelsea on loan?

Brown told Football Insider on 3 August that Chelsea are prepared to send Mudryk out on loan as he is not expected to play a part in Alonso's plans for the coming season.

Despite his lack of involvement in recent seasons, and previous concerns about his consistency, the club still regognise that he has the talent to succeed in the Premier League.

A move to Ligue 1 with Strasbourg is seen as the ideal opportunity for Mudryk to show that talent, dismiss any concerns, and get back to playing regular football.

"There are going to be a lot of clubs interested in signing Mudryk," Brown told Football Insider.

"If he can prove his fitness, he's still a very talented player, so there will certainly be interest and it's just about where Chelsea feel will be best for his development.

"I expect they will hold talks with a number of clubs who are interested, and then the decision will be made.

"It seems to me that Strasbourg is his most likely destination, just because it's the obvious choice with the links between the two clubs.

"Negotiations shouldn't be especially difficult, and it will allow him to play regular football at a high level, plus they'll be able to keep a close eye on him with all the data the clubs share.

"It might suit him more than a move to a Premier League club as well because he'll have a bit more time on the ball and more time to adapt to playing regularly.

"It's obviously a move that makes a lot of sense, so if he is going to leave Chelsea on loan, I expect that is where he will end up."

Which other clubs are interested in signing Mudryk?

Despite Strasbourg emerging as the leading candidates to sign Mudryk on loan, they are far from the only interested club, with his availability setting mutliple suitors on alert.

The Ukraine international has admirers both in the Premier League and across Europe, with clubs keen to take a gamble on his return to full fitness.

Brown told Football Insider on 6 August that Coventry City are plotting a move for Mudryk which could see him reuinite with former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard.

Lampard could look to take advantage of his links to Chelsea to beat rivals to a deal, despite the winger's availability placing a number of clubs across Europe on high alert.

The Coventry boss, during his time with Mudryk at Chelsea, previously insisted he would be a "great player" for the Blues but still has a way to go to develop his game.
