The evidence is now clear, Romeo Lavia will be Chelsea's next £100m star

Chelsea supporters have been waiting patiently to see the very best of Romeo Lavia since he arrived from Southampton in 2023.

After moving away from Manchester City, he became an incredible star at St Mary's Stadium, earning his £53million deal three summers ago.

However, since that moment, his career has stalled, all thanks to multiple long-term injuries, that have forced to him to watch from the sidelines.

It cannot be underestimated just how frustrating the situation has been for the 22-year-old, who was predicted to be a world-beater at Stamford Bridge.

His return to the lineup has certainly come at the perfect time, though, with Moises Caicedo now injured and Reece James also unable to stay fit.

Xabi Alonso must be careful with Lavia's return to the pitch, but the early signs have certainly been positive, especially if the club want to cash in.

There's no guarantee that Lavia's injury problems will disappear, even if the 2026-27 campaign has been an ideal one for him so far.

Deservedly, his form has earned him a call-up to the Belgium national team, even won his first start against France on Monday, 28 September.

Unfortunately, Michael Olise's solo goal in the 88th minute made the only difference in Brussels, but it was an impressive display from Chelsea's star.

In 85 minutes, he completed 100 per cent of his passes, created a chance, made seven passes into the final third and five tackles, while also winning 75 per cent of his ground duels [FotMob].

Even against France, he was one of the best players on the pitch, and that will be a huge boost to those back at Stamford Bridge this season.

Who are Chelsea's most expensive departures?

For all of Chelsea's talented players, only two have earned them over £100m in transfer fees at Stamford Bridge.

Most recently, Manchester City paid £125m for Enzo Fernandez, with Stefan Borson telling Football Insider that the Blues won the "game of bluff" this summer.

It is also understood that Eden Hazard's move to Real Madrid was as much as £150m, but fans saw exactly how that worked out for the Belgian star.

Lavia could be next to join that very small list, especially if his performances from this season continue for the coming months.
