Chris Sutton delivers Twitter verdict on new Celtic deal for defender

By Danny Wright

Chris Sutton believes that Celtic have pulled off a “superb” piece of business after Kieran Tierney penned a new six-year deal at Parkhead on Monday.

Tierney, 20, committed himself to the Hoops until 2023 having become a key part of Brendan Rodgers’ first-team and the Scotland international side.

He has made 22 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring two goals and supplying four assists in the process.

The Celtic Park youngster has been widely linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months, and it seems that the Bhoys have moved to get Tierney tied down on a longer deal after the Daily Record reported in October that Tottenham had “ramped up” their pursuit of the defender.

BT Sport pundit Sutton has since taken to his personal Twitter account to hail his old club for getting the deal done and dusted.

“Superb and clever business by Celtic tying Tierney down,” he said on Monday night.

Tierney is perhaps one of the first names on the teamsheet for Celtic, having started in all but one of their matches across all competitions in the first few months of this season.

The left-back has been handed the captain’s armband on one occasion when he played at centre-back against Kilmarnock in the Scottish League Cup, scoring a goal in a 5-0 win.

Next up for Tierney and his team-mates is a home clash against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday night where they will look to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the knock-out rounds of the competition after Christmas.
