Chris Sutton has questioned Jason Denayer’s motives after he rejected an approach from Celtic in the summer transfer window in order to sign for Galatasaray.
Brendan Rodgers has recently admitted that he approached to sign Denayer last month after a move for South Africa international Rivaldo Coetzee broke down due to him failing a medical.
However Denayer, who has previously been on loan at Parkhead, decided to return on a temporary deal to the Istanbul giants after finding himself nowhere near the first-team at Manchester City.
Former Celtic striker Sutton has since destroyed the Belgian centre-back for his decision, using the Hoops’ appearance in the Champions League group stages this season as a major reason as to why he was wrong to turn down a Glasgow return.
“What is he thinking about? I don’t think Galatasaray are even in the Europa League,” said Sutton during his commentary of Celtic’s 4-1 win over Hamilton on BT Sport on Friday night.
He added: “He doesn’t want to go to Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich.”
Celtic have been handed a tough draw in the Champions League group stages which as well as PSG and Munich, Anderlecht will also face them.
However they may have to face a couple of them without a fully-fit defence due to injuries to several of their centre-backs with Dedryck Boyata and Erik Sviatchenko currently sidelined.
Against Hamilton on Friday, Rodgers experimented with a back three which was made up of Mikael Lustig and Kieran Tierney, but it remains to be seen if he’ll utilise that against PSG on Tuesday night.
In other Celtic news, Ally McCoist has been blown away by this summer signing at Parkhead.
