Chris Sutton makes bold claim about Arsenal senior figure

By Amir Mir

Chris Sutton has boldly claimed that if Arsenal want to win the Premier League title then they must get rid of manager Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners recorded a comfortable 2-0 win against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon to close the gap on leaders Chelsea to nine points.

Striker Olivier Giroud opened the scoring when his scorpion-like like wowed the Emirates crowd in the first half.

After the break, academy graduate Alex Iwobi doubled his side’s lead to ensure they picked up a much-needed three points in the title race.

However, former Premier League winner Sutton explained why Wenger should leave the club in order to allow them to lift the league title.

“Well they have done [crumbled] for the past 12 years and they are not going to get away from that,” Sutton told 606 on BBC Radio Five Live. “I’m still not convinced with them, I’m one of those who thinks if Arsenal want to win a title, get rid of Arsene Wenger.”

Wenger celebrated 20 years at the club this season, but in recent years the Frenchman has come under criticism for not guiding his team over the line at crucial moments.

The north London club have failed to lift the English league title in 12 years, the last instance being the famous ‘Invincibles’ team of the 2003/04 season.

During that period the Gunners have lifted two FA Cup trophies in 2014 and 2015 when they beat Hull City and Aston Villa respectively.

At this moment in time, they are third in the league table on 40 points from 19 games, having lost crucial encounters against title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City earlier on in the campaign.
