Christian Eriksen has revealed that every single player who comes to Tottenham now “wants to win a trophy”.
Talking at a William Hill media day, as quoted by the Independent, Eriksen said that this had changed massively under Pochettino and that the club is now “really close” to finally winning something.
“We are really close now,” Eriksen says.
“We’ve lost a final, a semi-final, we’ve been in important games, and haven’t got the results we wanted.
“It’s been a curve for the club. Every player who comes here now wants a trophy. It wasn’t like that when I came.
“Now, you come here to win something. Now, we’re playing to win something. That has changed a lot.”
Football Insider verdict:
Eriksen’s comments were illuminating and Tottenham fans will absolutely love what he said. The club has been accused of not delivering on its promise, and the subject of trophies comes up time and time again, with Pochettino constantly having to fend off questions about whether his big stars will leave in search of silverware. Eriksen has flipped that narrative on its head. He has said that players come to Tottenham looking for trophies. The latest signing was Lucas Moura, who joined from Paris Saint-Germain. He’s obviously come here in search of trophies and said on joining: ‘Here I think it’s a new challenge to show my talent, my quality. It’s also a big club. The history of the club is very, very interesting.’ Eriksen’s comments show that the Tottenham team is a cohesive unit, and surely a trophy is just around the corner? The 2018 FA Cup?
