Cole Palmer has likely contributed to Chelsea missing out on the signing of another player from Man City in the final stages of the current transfer window.

The attacker of course departed Pep Guardiola's side to move to Stamford Bridge back in the summer of 2023.

It is a move that has worked out extremely well for the London side, with Palmer emerging as one of the Premier League's top players while performing for the club.

Many have tipped the 22-year-old to go to the very top of the game, but while that is of benefit to Chelsea now, it may have cost them when it comes to another potential deal with Man City.

Chelsea miss out on Man City prospect after Palmer success

As the deadline approaches for the end of the winter transfer window, Enzo Maresca's side appear to have missed out on another signing from the Premier League champions.

It is claimed that Chelsea had shown a strong interest in a late deal to sign 19-year-old midfielder Nico O'Reilly from Man City (The Athletic).

However, Pep Guardiola's side are said to rate the teenager "extremely highly" and as such wanted a buy-back clause included in any deal that saw O'Reilly sold to the Blues.

But with Maresca's club unwilling to agree to that demand the chances of a move are now said to be over in this window.

It is no surprise that Man City were keen to include a buy-back clause in any deal that would have seen O'Reilly sold to Chelsea.

That would have seen them secure a way to rescue the situation if having made that move, O'Reilly had gone on to thrive at Stamford Bridge in the way that Palmer has.

Equally it makes sense that Chelsea would not want to put themselves at risk of losing a player so easily, given losing anyone capable of making the impact for them that the attacker would be a huge blow.

With that in mind, it certainly seems as though the success of Palmer since he left Man City, may have dealt his current club a new blow in the transfer market.
