Confirmed: Newcastle left sweating as senior star faces race against time v Huddersfield
Newcastle United are sweating over the fitness of star winger Matt Ritchie after confirming he is facing a race against time to feature in the clash against Huddersfield this weekend.
The Magpies revealed via their official Twitter account and official website that the 28-year-old had pulled out of the Scotland squad for their international friendly against Hungary, and will instead be undergoing medical tests to adjudge the severity of his suspected injury blow.

Ritchie had played 87 minutes of the Tartan Army’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Costa Rica on Friday, but the club will now be hoping the injury is just a precaution, and that he will be able to add to his 30 appearances this season, having scored twice and contributed six assists.
The Magpies play host to Huddersfield on Saturday, in what will be a crunch clash for survival.
Football Insider verdict
There is always the fear that players will head out on international duty and pick up an injury, and it looks as though that is exactly what has happened with Ritchie. There are few players more important to the Magpies as we head into the final stretch of the season and Rafael Benitez will be left fuming inside to see his star man struggling. Still, it is by no means the end of the world and the Spanish boss does have adequate replacements in case the Scotland winger cannot make it against the Terriers. What would be a bombshell is if it is a serious injury, so all fingers will be crossed on Tyneside that it is a minor blow.
