Conte could axe Kane from Tottenham XI after training ground reveal - pundit

Tottenham will lose Harry Kane despite the arrival of Antonio Conte.

That is the view of former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the “conundrum” and “problem” facing Spurs’ new manager.

Kane has struggled to find form this season, scoring just once in nine Premier League outings, and suffered another blank in Conte’s opening match on Thursday night.

It comes after a summer dominated by transfer speculation and a failed move to Manchester City.

Football Insider understands Conte plans to adopt a 3-5-2 formation at Spurs in all matches, with Kane and Son Heung-min leading the line.

The Italian manager fielded a strong opening team in Thursday’s 3-2 defeat to Vitesse, with the expected three-man defence and Lucas Moura joining Kane and Son in a three-man attack..

However, Campbell believes Conte will drop Kane if he is not convinced he is focused.

“They are going to lose Harry Kane,” he told Football Insider.

“He is not there anyway. His mind is elsewhere.

“This is the conundrum and I’m going to say it, Harry Kane being at Spurs right now is a problem. He wants out. He has got beef with Levy because he broke a gentleman’s agreement.

“It has never been about the managers. Now, another manager has come in. Is Conte going to play Kane if he knows he wants out? I don’t know if he will. It is such a tough situation.”

Kane’s contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium expires at the end of June 2024.

He has contributed 228 goals and 50 assists in 350 appearances for the Lilywhites.
