Antonio Conte could convert Steven Bergwijn into a surprise wing-back at Tottenham, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker suggested Conte could revitalise Bergwijn's career as he did with Victor Moses at Chelsea.

Moses had not played for Chelsea for three years before Conte took over in the summer of 2016.

He ended up playing 34 Premier League games, including 29 starts, at right wing-back as Chelsea lifted the 2016-17 title.

It is understood that the squad are "loving" working with their new boss as they prepare for their Europa Conference League game with Vitesse.

Asked which players may benefit from the Italian's appointment, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: "It wouldn't surprise me, although some would see it that way, if he does what he did with Victor Moses and plays Steven Bergwijn at right wing-back. You never know.

"It's going to be good for Spurs and I think he'll get the best out of the players he's got.

"Lucas Moura can play as a number 10 so he'll be ok. But Steven Bergwijn is only ever going to play as a wing-back."

After starting the opening three Premier League games this season, Bergwijn has only featured twice in the league since.

The 24-year-old has played four times in the Carabao Cup and Europa Conference League but is yet to find the net this term.
