Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen is happy at the club despite being constantly linked with a move to Barcelona, according to a report.
Football.London reports that Spurs are hopeful that Eriksen, 26, will agree a new bumper deal at the club within the next few months but there is still a chance of him exiting North London if a ‘Philippe Coutinho-sized’ fee is tabled, as that would be enough to start talks.
Coutinho joined Barca for £142million in the January transfer window so that looks as though it would be the fee that Daniel Levy would demand to let Eriksen leave.
The Denmark international has been one of Spurs’ most important players over the last few years, helping the club transform into serious contenders for major silverware.
He has made 39 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham this term, scoring 12 goals and supplying 10 assists in the process.
Football Insider verdict
Spurs fans should be relaxed about Eriksen because there’s little chance that Levy would let someone of his calibre leave. Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Eriksen are the three irreplaceable talents in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad so Spurs must do absolutely everything in their power to ensure that they stay for as long as possible. Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose are ones who can definitely be replaced and even improved upon so perhaps a small re-jig of the first-team in the summer could spark a more solid pursuit of the Premier League title.
