Adam Wharton has 'put his Crystal Palace teammates to shame' after transfer latest

Adam Wharton has been an example to his Crystal Palace teammates with the way he has handled recent transfer speculation.

Pierre Sage has recently spoken about the midfielder's future, as he confessed they received offers in the summer, but the player has always been happy to stay.

Man City were among the clubs keeping a close eye on the England international this summer, but after the close of the transfer window, he will remain in South London.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Wharton is a model professional, and knows his loyalty will be reciprocated by the club in due course.

This comes amid ongoing drama at Selhurst Park, with Ismaila Sarr unhappy about being denied a move to Liverpool, while Jean-Philippe Mateta eyes an exit.

Neither Sarr nor Mateta are expected to leave Crystal Palace at this stage, despite European and Saudi transfer windows remaining open, but could cause new concerns.

What is Crystal Palace's stance over selling Adam Wharton?

Football Insider revealed on 23 August that Crystal Palace had no plans to sell Wharton this summer, despite receiving an approach from Man City.

Since his arrival in 2023, the midfielder has established himself as a crucial part of the FA Cup and Conference League winning sides, attracting high-profile interest from elsewhere.

However, Wharton is aware he owes a lot to the club, and is likely to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Michael Olise, Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze in being allowed to step up in the future.

"Adam Wharton has been a model professional throughout the transfer window," Brown told Football Insider.

"He's been realistic, he knows there is interest in him, but he's under contract at Crystal Palace and he's a crucial player for a side who have won trophies and are playing in Europe.

"He's a very talented player, so he knows eventually he will get a big move, but for now he's happy to continue his development at Palace.

"Wharton has gone from strength to strength at Crystal Palace and is only getting better, so he knows he will keep improving this season and then he can see what happens.

"But when you look at how some of his teammates have acted this summer, it puts them to shame, really.

"For Wharton, as you explained, it seems to be more like the Eze, Olise and Guehi situations where he can bide his time and develop before getting a big move eventually.

"It seems he is happy with that and Crystal Palace are certainly happy to keep him and then facilitate a good move, because the loyalty to these players goes both ways."

What is next for Ismaila Sarr at Crystal Palace?

While Wharton has been praised for his attitude towards the transfer window, his Crystal Palace teammate Sarr is making headlines after missing out on a move to Liverpool.

The Senegal international has not been training with his teammates, and his agent posted an explosive message to his social media channels slamming the club.

Brown told Football Insider on 3 September that Sarr will now have to get his head down and work hard to prove he can still be a regular player under Sage at Crystal Palace.

While a permanent exit has not been entirely ruled out, with the Saudi Pro League window open until October, the Eagles are now planning for the winger to return.

Crystal Palace risk continuing the season with another unhappy player on the books, but are hopeful that he will return to the fold and impress under Sage's management.
