Ismaila Sarr's chances of 'kicking up a fuss' over Liverpool move collapse revealed

Ismaila Sarr has been told he must get his head down and prove he is content to stay at Crystal Palace after missing out on a move away.

The 28-year-old was pushing for a move to Liverpool ahead of Tuesday's transfer deadline, and has not trained with the Eagles since before the start of the Premier League season.

While a permanent exit has not been entirely ruled out, with the Saudi Pro League window open until October, the Eagles are now planning for the Senegal international to return.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Sarr will be disappointed to have missed out on his big-money move but must now put it behind him.

Crystal Palace risk continuing the season with another unhappy player on the books, but are hopeful that he will return to the fold and impress under Pierre Sage's management.

Meanwhile, the winger's agent has been slammed for his attitude towards the deal, after he posted a frustrated statement via his social media channels after the deadline.

What is next for Ismaila Sarr at Crystal Palace?

Brown told Football Insider on 1 September that Sarr "doesn't want to" be at Crystal Palace and had been optimistic of securing a move, despite the club's stance.

Sage's side had always been reluctant to lose their star player, last season's Conference League top scorer, and have ultimately got the outcome they were looking for.

However, the player must now prove his commitment to the club on the pitch when he returns to action, regardless of how he feels about the transfer saga.

"Crystal Palace have understandably been reluctant to lose Sarr," Brown told Football Insider.

"He's under contract there, they're paying his wages, and he's been an important part of what they've achieved over the last couple of years since they brought him in.

"When you look at where he was before Palace, he was struggling to get games out in France, so they took a gamble and gave him the chance to get to where he is now.

"Of course a move to Liverpool is going to be tempting, but if that fell through and he's staying at Palace, he needs to prove he wants to be a Crystal Palace player.

"He has to get his coat off, get his head down in training, and work hard to prove he can still be part of their plans, even if he is disappointed at not getting the move he wanted.

"If he does that, then he can return to the side and everybody can put it behind them, but they won't want to see him just sulking around training all the time.

"It's about the player's attitude and how he responds, because the club had every right to keep hold of him, they just hope he won't continue to kick up a fuss."

Could Liverpool return to sign Sarr in the future?

Liverpool saw multiple offers for Sarr rejected in the closing stage of the transfer window, with Andoni Iraola viewing the addition of a new winger as a priority.

However, Sarr was not the only winger on their radar during the summer window, having tried and failed to sign other targets including Brighton star Yankuba Minteh.

Football Insider revealed on 30 August that Liverpool had dropped out of the race to sign Minteh, but could reignite their interest in January after he returns from an injury.

As a result, the same could be said about Sarr, with the Reds having been long-term admirers of the Senegal international and having failed to sign an alternative.

There is a possibility that they could return for Sarr in the mid-season window, and while Palace will still be reluctant to lose him, the player's stance could be key.
