Daniel Munoz was unable to impress on Tuesday as Colombia exited the 2026 World Cup after a penalty defeat to Switzerland in the round of 16.

The tie had to be decided with a shootout after a 0-0 draw, with the Swiss coming away victorious.

Colombia had been expected to win the tie by many, with multiple players unable to perform at BC Place Vancouver.

One of the biggest disappointments was Crystal Palace’s Munoz, with the media quick to slam his display against the European outfit.

The right-back is seen as one of Colombia’s best players, but was not able to influence the attack or the defence.

As a result, the nation has now missed out on a tie against Argentina in the quarter-finals, with Switzerland going in their place.

Daniel Munoz rated as one of Colombia’s worst players vs Switzerland

Munoz had an excellent start to the 2026 World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico.

The Palace star netted in his first two matches against Uzbekistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

However, this attacking threat was nullified against the Swiss, and the 30-year-old provided no threat up top throughout the entire game.

This was highlighted in ESPN’s review of his performance, who wrote: “It wasn't the right-back's best game.

“He battled with Ndoye on his flank and was beaten in some duels.

“He lacked clarity on the ball in attack.”

As a result, Munoz was given a five rating, one of the lowest on the team, as Colombia made an early exit in the World Cup.

How bad was Munoz for Colombia?

Unfortunately for Palace fans, the media appears to be right about Munoz’s display against the Swiss

Fotmob on 8 July states that he failed to complete a single attempted cross, was dispossessed once, won only 25 per cent of his ground duels, committed four fouls and only created a 0.01 xA.

Perhaps his only meaningful contribution was that he created one big chance.

Therefore, Palace will be desperately hoping that Munoz can quickly bounce back once he returns to Selhurst Park this summer.

The right-back is no doubt one of the Eagles’ most important players, and the defender being on form will be vital to a good start to the 2026-27 campaign.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen how Munoz will perform once the new Premier League season gets underway.
