Eddie Howe to 'reject' Everton, Crystal Palace and Fulham offers, his likely next club revealed

Published on:

Eddie Howe is prepared to reject proposals from the likes of Crystal Palace, Fulham and Everton should they arrive this season.

All three clubs are facing uncertainty over their managers, with Pierre Sage and Alvaro Arbeloa at risk of being sacked, while David Moyes' contract is up at the end of the season.

That has sparked speculation that they, and other Premier League clubs who could be in need of a new manager, could turn to the former Newcastle boss as a target.

However, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Howe has no intention of returning to management with a "mid table" Premier League side.

Instead, the boss has his sights set on loftier goals, having recently been linked with potential vacancies with the likes of Man United, Tottenham, and England.

As a result, Crystal Palace and their Premier League rivals will be forced to look elsewhere if they are pushed into finding a new manager, with Howe off the table.

What is next for Eddie Howe after leaving Newcastle?

Football Insider revealed on 11 October that Howe would be interested in landing the Man United job if it became available, but is currently taking a break from football.

After his decision to leave Newcastle mid-way through their pre-season campaign, the boss is expected to take a break from management before returning to the dugout.

However, upon his return, he is looking to take charge of a "top club" and is prepared to turn down offers for those further down the Premier League table.

"Eddie Howe is still out of work, so I expect he will be linked with almost every job that comes up," Brown told Football Insider.

"Whether it's Crystal Palace, Fulham, even Everton if Moyes leaves, he is going to be tipped as a contender for all of those jobs because of how highly regarded he is.

"But I can't see Eddie Howe going to a mid-table club like Palace or Fulham at the moment, I expect he's going to be aiming a bit higher, with all due respect to those clubs.

"I'm sure they would consider the possibility, but at the moment I think he would turn down any offers that came his way unless it was a rally big job.

"He'll be looking to take over at a top club because look where he was with Newcastle, he had them playing in the Champions League, so that's where he will want to stay.

"It's difficult for clubs like Palace, because where do they look for these top managers? They've tried something outside the box with Sage and it hasn't worked out for them.

"But when you're struggling to win games, it's also hard to attract top managers, and Howe isn't likely to be taking over there."

Who could be the next Crystal Palace manager?

Howe would have been seen as an optimistic appointment for the Eagles regardless of his stance on a return, with other names already being considered behind the scenes.

Amid the growing pressure on Sage's position following a 5-0 defeat against rivals Brighton, discussions are believed to be ongoing behind the scenes to identify his replacement.

Football Insider revealed on 19 October that Sean Dyche, Rob Edwards and Thomas Frank are currently on a three-man shortlist to become the next Crystal Palace manager.

Dyche is being backed by Palace confidant Iain Moody, while director of football Matt Hobbs is pushing for Edwards' appointment after working with him at Wolves.

Frank, meanwhile, has been out of work since losing the Tottenham job and was heavily considered during the summer before Sage ultimately landed the role.
