Ismaila Sarr to 'agree' deal after Liverpool move fell through

Ismaila Sarr is closing in on signing a new contract at Crystal Palace after his summer move to Liverpool fell through.

The 28-year-old was subject to a £50million offer from Andoni Iraola's side in the closing stages of the summer transfer window, but saw the move blocked by the Eagles.

Since then, the Senegal international has featured just twice for Palace after his agent came out to criticise the club and Pierre Sage admitted the player was left disappointed.

However, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Sarr is now ready to commit his future to Crystal Palace and will sign a bumper new contract.

Sage's side have always been keen to keep the winger around after an outstanding season which saw him win the Golden Boot as part of Palace's Conference League success.

Despite inevitably feeling disappointed at not getting his big move to Liverpool, Sarr is now ready to get his head down and continue to play at the top level for Crystal Palace.

How do Crystal Palace feel about Ismaila Sarr's future?

Brown told Football Insider on 8 September that Sarr's attitude towards Crystal Palace after missing out on his move to Liverpool has been disappointing for the club.

However, following his return to first-team training and Sage's hope to reintegreate him into the starting XI, he is now showing a willingness to commit to the club.

Palace, meanwhile, have been keen to reward him for his performances since before the Liverpool drama, and are now hopeful they can put the speculation behind them.

"Crystal Palace want to put an end to all of the speculation about Sarr's future," Brown told Football Insider.

"They'd been working on agreeing a new contract with him before all of the Liverpool stuff happened, and I must amid it is a surprise that they seem to be close to an agreement now.

"He had been quite clear that he wanted to join Liverpool, even to the point where he was not training, but hopefully everybody has gotten over that now.

"He's got his head down, returned to training, and the manager still sees him as an important part of what he's trying to do there.

"Crystal Palace's stance haven't changed, they always wanted to keep hold of him and now that looks more likely to happen if he agrees a new contract with a wage boost included as well."

Could Liverpool return with a new move for Sarr?

Liverpool had identified Sarr as one of their leading targets to strengthen on the right wing in the closing stages of the summer window, and saw a big-money move rejected.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has since explained that the bid did not come close to their valuation, and no second bid arrived, with the matter considered closed.

However, Liverpool are still keen to strengthen out wide ahead of the January window, and Football Insider revealed on 5 September that Sarr is still high on their list.

Iraola's side will also consider other options, and will be forced to look elsewhere if Sarr puts pen to paper at Selhurst Park in the near future as expected.

However, he remains highly thought of at Anfield, and what would have been a dream move for Sarr could still be on the cards further down the line.
