Ismaila Sarr's new Crystal Palace contract to contain 'Liverpool release clause'
Ismaila Sarr looks increasingly likely to sign a new contract at Crystal Palace, but any deal could include a "Liverpool clause".
The 29-year-old was keen to make the switch to Anfield during the summer after they saw a £50million offer blocked by Crystal Palace as it did not come close to their valuation.
Having only recently returned to first-team training with Pierre Sage's side, it has come as a surprise that the Senegal international could pen a new deal, but it will not rule out a move.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Sarr could include a release clause in any new contract which would allow him to join Liverpool if they returned.
Sage's side have always been keen to keep the winger around after an outstanding season which saw him win the Golden Boot as part of Palace's Conference League success.
However, the winger was left disappointed at not landing his dream move to Liverpool during the summer, and the door could be left open for the Reds to move in the future.
Will Ismaila Sarr sign a new contract at Crystal Palace?
Brown told Football Insider on 5 October that Sarr is closing in on signing a new contract at Crystal Palace despite the disappointment of missing out on a move to Liverpool.
Plans are believed to have been in place to hand the winger a new deal before the transfer saga, as a result of his outstanding performances in last season's Conference League success.
However, any deal is unlikely to block the possibility of a future move, and Sarr could still be allowed to leave Crystal Palace if the right club comes in for him.
"It's going to be interesting to see if we find out the details of that new contract for Sarr," Brown told Football Insider.
"Everybody knows he wanted to join Liverpool during the summer, he was disappointed that the offer was rejected and he's only recently come back into full training.
"So a couple of weeks later, for him to be close to signing a new contract, I expect there will be some sort of Liverpool clause which could allow that deal to still happen.
"I've seen it happen before, players get clauses put in their contract in case certain teams come in or clubs in certain competitions.
"I think Sarr will want to leave the door open for that move to Liverpool because of how he reacted after it fell through, and I'm sure Palace will be okay with that for the right price.
"It will be a deal that works for everybody, and if Liverpool don't come back in for him, then Palace will be keeping hold of a player who has done an excellent job for them."
Could Liverpool reignite their interest in Sarr?
With Sarr seemingly set to sign a new contract at Crystal Palace, it remains to be seen whether the so-called Liverpool clause will be included amid ongoing speculation.
The Reds are believed to have been long-term admirers of the Senegal international and it came as a blow when their offer was turned down by the South Londoners.
Football Insider revealed last month that Sarr remains high on Liverpool's list of targets as they are still in need of signing a new right-winger ahead of the January window.
Following Mohamed Salah's exit in the summer, the right-hand side of their front three was labelled a priority position, and they ultimately failed to land their top targets.
However, Andoni Iraola's side will also consider other options, and will be forced to look elsewhere if Sarr puts pen to paper at Selhurst Park in the near future as expected.
