Jaydee Canvot's 'head could be turned' as Crystal Palace stance revealed

Crystal Palace fear Jaydee Canvot could have his head turned if Paris Saint-Germain step up their long-term interest next summer.

The 20-year-old has long been on the radar of the Champions League winners, who were interested in signing him before his £20million move to Selhurst Park in 2025.

He has since established himself as a key part of this Crystal Palace side, having made 41 appearances and played an important role in last season's Conference League success.

However, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown warned Football Insider that Canvot could have his head turned should PSG step up their interest in the coming windows.

The opportunity to return to France with a side as successful and PSG will inevitably be temping for the centre-back, despite Crystal Palace's reluctance to see him leave.

Palace view Canvot as a key asset both now and for the long-term future and would be reluctant to sell, but interest from Europe's top clubs could make their situation difficult.

How do Crystal Palace feel about losing Jaydee Canvot?

Brown told Football Insider on 6 October that Crystal Palace are prepared to do everything in their power to block Canvot's exit after rebuffing PSG's approach during the summer.

He is not seen as the finished article by any means, but has gone from strength to strength with an increase in playing time, and could become a crucial player for the Eagles.

PSG are believed to be keeping a close eye on his progress, and while no formal offers are expected imminently, there are concerns that an approach could be hard to reject.

"It will be difficult for Crystal Palace to keep Canvot if PSG do step up their interest," Brown told Football Insider.

"I'm told he's a player they've wanted for a while, they were aware of him even before his move to Crystal Palace, so maybe it's a deal they could look to explore.

"They're a top side, they're winning everything going at the moment, plus they could offer him the chance to return to France which I'm sure will be appealing to him as well.

"There's every chance that if PSG make an offer for him, then his head could be turned, because the opportunity to join a club like that is always bound to be tempting.

"It's no slight on Crystal Palace, because I think they've managed his development perfectly and he's become an important player for them now as well.

"But in a situation like this, it can be difficult for clubs like Palace to keep hold of their players and to bat off that interest."

Why has Canvot been at the centre of controversy this season?

Canvot is held in extremely high regard at Crystal Palace, and while that means they will be determiend to keep him, it has also led to controversy behind the scenes.

Sage opted to drop the centre-back from his side for the 3-2 defeat against Ipswich as he was unhappy with his performance against Fulham, leading to questions being asked.

Brown warned Football Insider that Sage could cause problems with his public criticism of players, while later reports suggested the Palace hierarchy were unhappy with the call.

Sage was ultimately proved right as Canvot returned to the starting XI against Leeds and turned in an outstanding performance to earn a point at Elland Road.

However, amid growing pressure on the manager's position, Steve Parish has confessed the board remain on high alert, and a decision could be made in the near future.
