Crystal Palace move for Sean Dyche ‘makes a lot of sense’ after source’s reveal
Sean Dyche would be well-suited to take charge of Crystal Palace in the coming weeks.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the 53-year-old’s style would be a good fit at Selhurst Park.
This comes with Eagles boss Pierre Sage facing huge pressure at the South London outfit, who have had a challenging start to the new campaign.
Wyness believes that Dyche would be a sensible appointment at Palace if they decide that they need to steady the ship in the coming months.
Football Insider revealed earlier this week that the former Everton and Burnley boss is one of several candidates that Palace’s hierarchy are considering at the moment.
Dyche has been out of work since he left Nottingham Forest back in February, but is highly experienced throughout his career in the Premier League.
Crystal Palace to rebuild under Sean Dyche
Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Dyche would be the perfect man to help Palace rebuild after a difficult summer.
The capital club welcomed a new manager in the summer, and also lost several key players, with the likes of Jean-Philippe Mateta and Ismaila Sarr angling for exits as well.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness explained that Dyche would be the right man for the job, more so than his other links with Celtic at the moment.
“I see Sean's name also linked with Palace, which makes a lot of sense to me if there were to be a change at Palace, which I would hope there isn't, but if there were, that would make more sense,” he said.
“Palace are struggling to get things back together again, whereas Celtic should be pushing forward on the front foot and the fans would demand a much more creative, free-flowing style of play.
“Sean is very skilled in certain ways, but I don't think that's his strength.”
Celtic ‘would like’ to appoint Dyche
Wyness also told Football Insider on Friday that Celtic’s board “would like” to appoint Dyche as the successor to Martin O’Neill in the coming months.
The Bhoys are under huge pressure to turn their season around, after a recent run of form that saw them slip to back-to-back defeats against Rangers.
Wyness is adamant that Dyche’s vast Premier League experience makes him a clear target for Celtic, meaning Palace may have to battle for his signature.
The Eagles are not set on axing Sage just yet, but the Frenchman needs to oversee a sharp turnaround at Selhurst in the coming weeks.
