Crystal Palace are eyeing Sean Dyche among a number of contenders if they decide to sack Pierre Sage, sources have told Football Insider.

Sage has come under pressure in recent weeks after a slow start to life at Selhurst Park, and chairman Steve Parish recently confessed the board are still on "high alert".

That is despite a recent turnaround in form which has seen the Eagles lose just one of their last five games in all competitions, as the pressure on Sage's position remains high.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Dyche, 55, has long been admired by the Crystal Palace hierarchy and is still on their radar.

It is unclear how highly the former Everton and Nottingham Forest boss ranks among Palace's options, but he remains a potential target should they opt to make a change.

Sage has retained the backing of the board for now, but ahead of a huge run of fixtures against Nottingham Forest, Lyon, Brighton and Besiktas, that could change.

Could Crystal Palace sack Pierre Sage?

Football Insider revealed on 16 September that Sage is fighting for his job at Crystal Palace after a slow start and growing concerns about his man management style.

His appointment was seen as a risk by the South Londoners as they turned away from their typical tried-and-tested options following the success of Oliver Glasner.

Appointing Dyche would be seen as a return to that previous way of thinking, which may lead to backlash from supporters who want the club to stick to their ambitious plans.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "It's an interesting situation with Sean Dyche, he does seem to get linked with pretty much every position that becomes available.

"He's being spoken about in connection with the Crystal Palace job again recently because of the pressure that is on Pierre Sage.

"I know there are people at Palace who are big fans of his and have been for quite a while, he's somebody who has been high on their list in the past.

"So I wouldn't rule out seeing Palace make a move for him if they do decide to make a change and sack Pierre Sage, but it won't be popular with the fans.

"They've moved away from that type of appointment in recent years, but as I said, it is still a possibility and maybe that could be one that they revisit if he does look to come back into football."

What is next for Sean Dyche?

Crystal Palace are not the only club believed to be keeping an eye on Dyche, with major managerial decisions set to take place following the international break.

While no Premier League clubs have opted to pull the trigger just yet, top bosses remain under pressure, and the former Burnley boss will be waiting to receieve a call.

Football Insider revealed on 2 October that Dyche is now eyeing a return to management eight months after his departure from Nottingham Forest.

The 55-year-old was sacked in February after just 114 days in the role, and was one of five managers who have taken charge at the City Ground in the last 12 months.

However, after spending some time out of the game doing punditry work, the boss is now open to a return and is expected to listen to offers and see if he can be tempted.
