Oliver Glasner's first Nottingham Forest signing is already obvious, Crystal Palace should be worried - view
Oliver Glasner has been appointed by Nottingham Forest and will surely attempt to reunite with Daichi Kamada.
The pair appear interlinked, having spent time at both Eintracht Frankfurt and Crystal Palace together.
The 29-year-old has been yet to sign a new deal at Selhurst Park, officially becoming a free agent at the start of the month.
Palace had been reportedly closing in on an agreement with Kamada, but Glasner's move to Nottingham Forest may change things dramatically.
The Austrian's appointment came almost out of nowhere, with Vitor Pereira suddenly dismissed despite having led the Tricky Trees comfortably away from relegation.
But with Glasner available having left Palace at the end of the season, decision-makers have jumped at the chance to appoint him.
Daichi Kamada and Oliver Glasner partnership could continue
Kamada and Glasner's paths first crossed when the manager arrived at Frankfurt in 2021, with the midfielder already there.
The Japan international had already been a superb Bundesliga player, and continued to thrive under his new boss.
When Glasner left at the end of his contract in 2023, so did Kamada, joining Lazio on a one-year deal while the Austrian was out of work.
February 2024 saw the 51-year-old appointed by Palace, and he had a call to make at the end of the season.
At the first available opportunity, in came Kamada on a free transfer, and the pair now find themselves in a similar situation.
It is unclear just how much power Glasner will have over transfers at the City Ground, but his likely first choice would not surprise anyone.
And for good reason. His appreciation for Kamada is not simply a quirk - the midfielder is genuinely fantastic.
What Kamada said about his Crystal Palace future
Kamada's ability was already well-established, but the World Cup has provided him with a bigger platform.
The 29-year-old scored against the Netherlands and Tunisia, and did not misplace a single pass as Japan narrowly exited the tournament at the hands of Brazil on Monday.
The midfielder spoke after the game and affirmed his intention of staying at Palace, but that statement came before news of Glasner's move.
"Basically, I want to stay in the Premier League, so basically, I want to stay at Palace," he said. "Honestly, even looking at it from a global perspective, the only teams that have a higher priority than Palace are truly top teams.
"When you consider that you can play in European leagues, play in the Premier League, live in London, and have your family and everything in a familiar environment, there really aren't many clubs that have a higher priority than Palace."
However, news of Glasner's arrival at the City Ground is set to test Kamada's resolve.
