Sources: Crystal Palace exploring Brennan Johnson transfer after Everton twist

Crystal Palace are exploring the possibility of selling Brennan Johnson just seven months after his arrival, sources have told Football Insider.

The 25-year-old made the switch to South London at the start of the January transfer window, but has failed to make any significant impact since his arrival.

Crystal Palace are not believed to be forcing him out of the door, but his name has been touted to a number of European clubs as they aim to assess the level of interest.

Sources say Everton are among those clubs who have been approached, while at least three other Premier League clubs have shown an initial interest in the possibility.

Johnson is under contract at Selhurst Park until 2030, having penned a long-term agreement earlier this year, but the Eagles are not ruling out letting him leave already.

However, any deal is unlikely to come cheap, with the Eagles looking to recoup a significant percentage of the £35million they paid Tottenham for his signature in Janaury.

Crystal Palace are not desperate to sell Johnson this summer, and feel he could still play a role under Pierre Sage, but have held talks about the possibility of an exit.

This comes after Football Insider shared reports that Everton could make a move for Johnson, with their interest growing after being approached over the move.

The Toffees are currently seen as the most likely club if any are prepared to make a move, given their need for a winger, but it is uncertain whether they would meet the asking price.

Sources say Palace and the player's representatives have circulated his name around a number of clubs, leading to speculative links about a move to Italy with Fiorentina.

Since he made the move to Selhurst Park in January, Johnson has failed to score and has provided just two assists in 26 appearances across all competitions.

Following the change of manager, meanwhile, there had been hopes that his best form could be found, but the chief decision-makers behind the scenes are still not convinced.

Which clubs could be interested in signing Johnson?

Everton and Fiorentina have been the clubs publicly named as showing an interest in Johnson, but they are not the only ones considering making a move for his signature.

The Wales international was highly sought after during the January window before Palace won the race, and that admiration is not believed to have faded.

Football Insider exclusively revealed ahead of that window that Brentford and Ipswich Town were keen on signing Johnson and had explored the possibility of a deal.

Meanwhile, the likes of Bournemouth and Sunderland, both of whom have qualified for the Europa League alongside Palace, were also pushing to do a mid-season deal.

While there is no confirmation about whether any of those clubs could reignite their interest, sources say at least three Premier League clubs are believed to be keen.
